Sherwood, Oregon, named among the 50 best places to live in the United States in 2013 by "Money" magazine, is located just southwest of Portland, in the Tualatin Valley. The community, once a stop on the way to the Klondike Gold fields, is home to more around 19,000 residents living here, the majority of whom commute back and forth to jobs in neighboring Portland. The city is well known for its extensive community public park system, its diverse mixture of real estate and its cozy small town community feel.

Prospective homebuyers will find everything from traditional ranch-style homes to apartment-style condo properties. There is a good mixture of single family and multi-family real estate in Sherwood. TriMet provides daily public bus service between Sherwood and nearby Tigard as well as downtown Portland. For trips outside of the region, Portland International Airport is less than an hour's drive away and offers non-stop service to more than 150 cities around North America and beyond. More than 18 million passengers fly in or out of Portland airport each year.

The City of Sherwood is home to a number of annual community-wide events. Chief among these is the annual Sherwood Robin Hood Festival, held each July. There is also a smaller medieval festival held in the winter. In addition, the community boasts the Waterfront Blues Festival each June in Portland and the Crawfish Festival in Tualatin each August. Portland is also home to the Portland Trailblazers NBA franchise and just a short drive away from the University of Oregon and Oregon State University basketball games.

Of course, there is no shortage of cultural attractions in neighboring Portland. Portland is known for its food trucks, the six-level Powell's bookstore, the Oregon Historical Society, the Portland Art Museum, and scenic Washington Park. In addition, the Willamette Valley, which runs south of Portland, is one of the leading wine and fruit-growing regions in the United States.

Residents living in Sherwood will find a myriad of restaurants, cafes, and coffee houses without even having to leave the city limits. This Washington County city is home to a number of local favorites, such as Taste Teriyaki for Japanese fare, Tree's Restaurant for Cajun food, Koba Grill for Korean cuisine, and Manzanillo Restaurant for Mexican food. Of course, there are dozens of other food options for purchase as well as a weekly downtown farmers' market in nearby Portland.

The neighborhoods of Sherwood are primarily bedroom communities for those working in nearby Portland, because there are a few employers based in the city. Top employers in Sherwood include Billet Products, a company that makes wooden pallets; BMC West, a lumbering company; Albertson's food markets; Fettig Construction; and Home Depot.

Sherwood School Information

For post-secondary education, the Portland area is home to Portland State University and the Portland campus of Willamette University.
