Boring Real Estate Market

The community of Boring, Oregon, which calls itself "the most exciting place to live," has a thriving real estate market that is located around 12 miles southeast of Portland. The city, situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, is home to more than 30 active plant and tree nurseries as well as the largest guide dog training center in the United States. Boring, which is largely a bedroom community for nearby Portland, is home to around 7,700 residents living here. Playing off of the city's name, Boring is a sister city to the City of Dull in Scotland and Bland in Australia.

Homes for sale in Boring vary quite a bit. Prospective homebuyers will find real estate options from traditional bungalows and cottages to mid-century modern ranch-style homes and new constructions. While most of the housing market in Boring consists of single family homes, there are a few semi-detached condo properties here. Listing prices in Boring range from around $200,000 to more than $750,000. Condo prices start at slightly less than $200,000. The median home value in Boring is currently $344,900, an increase of nearly 10 percent over the previous year.

Boring Community Amenities

There's no shortage of things to see and do when living in and around the community of Boring. Clackamas County owns and manages more than a dozen neighborhood and public parks, including Menig Memorial Park and the Boring Station Trailhead Park. Just outside of town is the Columbia River, which provides many more community parks as well as water sports. Mt Hood and the Cascades are also just a short drive away. The Springwater Corridor, a rail trail that connects Boring and Portland, also runs through the community. In addition, the Boring Lava Field, an extinct volcanic field, is located between Boring and Portland and offers a unique and scenic hiking venue to tour.

It's easy to get around in Boring, given the city's central location. State Route 212 and US 26 (Mt Hood Highway) run right through the community. In addition, TriMet offers regular light rail and bus service between the city as well as points around Portland and the neighboring areas. For trips outside of the region, Portland International Airport is less than an hour's drive away and offers non-stop service to more than 150 cities around North America and beyond, including Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago and New York City. The airport, ranked among the best in the United States, serves more than 18 million passengers each year.

The City of Boring is home to a number of annual community events. Among these is the Fall Family Festival, held each August. Boring is also home to a seasonal farmers' market. Of course, nearby Portland offers a myriad of additional attractions, including the Picton Manor, the Portland Museum of Art, the Portland Children's Museum and the Oregon Historical Museum.

Boring homeowners will find a myriad of restaurants, cafes and coffee houses near the main housing market. This Clackamas County city is home to a number of local favorites, such as Red Apple Restaurant for unpretentious American food and Nuts on Sports Pizza. Nearby Portland offers dozen of additional food and restaurant options, including dozens of downtown food carts. Independent retailers in Boring include several antique stores and an Army/Navy surplus store. Nearby Gresham is home to the Hood Shopping Center, among other shopping venues.

Boring, while primarily a bedroom community for Portland, has a thriving economy all of its own. Top employers in the city include the many nurseries and greenhouses located there as well as big box retailers like Home Depot and Target.

Boring School Information

This district, which has a current enrollment of around 4,200 students, owns and manages 11 schools--five elementary schools, three middle schools, a K-12 charter school and a high school.  In addition to the public schools, the greater Portland area also is showing to offer a number of excellent private schools as well. These include Hood View Junior Academy and Good Shepherd School in Boring, Open Door Christian Academy in Troutdale and the Touchstone School in Lake Oswego. For higher education institutions, the area is home to Portland State University, The University of Portland, the Art Institute of Portland, Reed College and the Portland campus of Willamette University.
